Catalan Ombudsman's Office to visit Seu d'Urgell on April 29

The Catalan Ombudsman's Office will visit the town of Seu d'Urgell next April 29. Anyone who would like to make a query or lodge a complaint regarding administrations can make an appointment by calling 900 124 124, or sending an e-mail to sindic@sindic.cat. The Catalan Ombudsman's staff will receive visitors at "de les Monges" building (carrer Capdevila, 29) on the third floor.

Catalan Ombudsman appears in Parliament to present the 2008 Annual Report

On Monday April 20, and April 27, at 4 P.M. the Catalan Ombudsman will appear before a Parliamentary committee to present the 2008 Annual Report, delivered to the President of Parliament in February.

"Opening Doors to Rights" exhibit to travel to Puigcerdà and Seu d'Urgell

In April, the "Opening Doors to Rights" travelling exhibit, created by the Catalan Ombudsman to display the institution's history and work, can be visited in the Caixa Girona Savings Bank exhibition hall in Puigcerdà (plaça de l'Ajuntament, 2) from April 6 to April 13, and in the Sant Domènec multipurpose facility in Seu d'Urgell (carrer Sant Domènec) from April 15 to 30.

Rafael Ribó takes part in European Ombudsmen's meeting on immigration

Next April 6-7, Catalan Ombudsman Rafael Ribó will take part in the seminar "Immigration's Impact on the Work of the Ombudsman" to be held in Cyprus, organized by the European Ombudsman and the Cypriot Ombudsman, within the framework of biennial meetings that the European Ombudsman holds with the state Ombudsman's offices of the EU. Ribó will attend the seminar with the Aragonese Ombudsman, Fernando García Vicente, as a representative of the autonomous Ombudsman's Offices of Spain, having been chosen to represent them.

Catalan Ombudsman proposes a code of best practices for the Administration

On occasion of the Institution's 25th anniversary, Catalan Ombudsman Rafael Ribó presented on March 27 a proposed code of best practices for the Administration. The decisions handed down by the Catalan Ombudsman to counter practices incompatible with good administration have been analyzed to develop this code. The general proposals made to administrations in their day have been extracted or reformulated. The code features 17 principles such as equality and non-discrimination, the duty to respond expressly or reasonable time frames.

The Catalan Ombudsman's Office has carried out 135,578 interventions and received over 55,000 complaints in 25 years

In its first 25 years of existence, the Catalan Ombudsman's Office has carried out 135,578 interventions, of which 55,198 (40%) were complaints and 79,392 (59%) queries. The Catalan Ombudsman's decisions have a 90% acceptance rate by the administration. They have not been accepted 10% of the time.
