Presentation of the 2008 Annual Report

On Monday, February 16, Catalan Ombudsman Rafael Ribó will deliver the 2008 Annual Report to Ernest Benach, President of the Parliament of Catalonia. Following the presentation, the Ombudsman will hold a press conference in Parliament to detail the content. The report describes the complaints and activities handled by the institution in 2008.

Cardona and Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, upcoming sites for Catalan Ombudsman visits

The next visits of the Catalan Ombudsman's office, for local citizens to file complaints on the administrations or make queries, will be to Cardona, on February 23 and Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, on February 26. Citizens can call 900 124 124 or send an e-mail to sindic@sindic.cat to arrange an appointment.

"Opening Doors to Rights!" Exhibit Opens in Solsona

The exhibit "Opening Doors to Rights", created by the Catalan Ombudsman to show the institution's history and work, will be in Solsona in the month of February. It can be visited from February 4-23 in the Aula de Cultura of Caixa Penedès Savings Bank, carrer Castell, 19, first floor.

Special Supervision Agreement with Local Council of Cardedeu

On February 4, the mayor of Cardedeu, Calamanda Vila, and Catalan Ombudsman Rafael Ribó, will sign a collaboration agreement to strengthen the defense of rights on the local level. As a result, the Catalan Ombudsman will conduct a special follow-up of complaints and queries received by inhabitants of this municipality. This supervision will result in the presentation of an annual report. Sant Adrià de Besòs, Castellar del Vallès, Sant Sadurní d'Anoia and Cubelles have already signed similar agreements with the Catalan Ombudsman.

Suggestion for Fixed Rate to Cover Structural Water Costs

The Catalan Ombudsman has addressed various local councils to request that they change the rate structure for water supply, and apply a fixed rate that covers the structural costs of the service, separate from the cost of consumption.

Judicial Coverage for Annual Youth Card Fee Collection

The Catalan Ombudsman believes that this judicial coverage must be conducted from the standpoint of its configuration as public revenue. The Catalan Ombudsman has reminded the Department of Social and Citizen Action that the Constitution stipulates that the levying of taxes and regulation of its essential elements must be regulated by law. Otherwise, the economic benefit is legally null and void due to a lack of judicial coverage.

Course on the Catalan Ombudsman at the Autonomous University of Barcelona

For the sixth time, the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the Catalan Ombudsman have organized a 18-hour elective credit on the Catalan Ombudsman. During the course, open to all students of the University will cover all the theoretical fundamentals of the institution, in addition to case studies of some of the Ombudsman's areas of activity. A presentation by Catalan Ombudsman will open the course on March 9.
