The Catalan Ombudsman's office will travel to Santa Coloma de Gramenet next January 21. Anyone wishing to make queries or file complaints regarding administrations should schedule an appointment by calling 900 124 124, or sending an e-mail to sindic@sindic.cat. The Ombudsman's staff will receive visitors at Bruc 21-23.

Consumers' rights at the local level

A survey answered by 93 municipal and county consumer information offices, the analysis of complaints filed on this service, and face-to-face visits to different offices are the three main sources of information on the Catalan Ombudsman's ex-officio intervention on consumers' rights. This consists of an approach to these services in terms of their roles, the adequacy of resources and the coordination that exists with other organizations acting in consumer affairs.

Retroactive application of car tax exemption for persons with disabilities

A suggestion has been made to the Barcelona Provincial Government tax administration, which is handling five cases from five different municipalities (Cornellà de Llobregat, Torrelavit, Santa Eugènia de Berga, les Franqueses del Vallès and Cerdanyola del Vallès) which have not been retroactively exempted.

Collaboration agreement with Fecsa-Endesa

Josep Maria Rovira, Managing Director of Fecsa-Endesa for Catalonia, and Catalan Ombudsman, Rafael Ribó, will formalize a collaboration agreement next January 22. The aim of the agreement is to improve the processing of complaints and claims that Fecsa-Endesa users make through the Catalan Ombudsman. The Catalan Ombudsman has signed similar agreements with other public service companies such as Telefónica or Gas Natural.

Síndic offers "Opening Doors to Rights" exhibit to organizations and local councils

The exhibit is meant to commemorate, throughout 2009, three significant dates in the institution's history: 600 years since the creation by King Martí the Humane of the first rights advocacy institution in Catalonia, 30 years from the recovery of the figure of the Ombudsman with the Statute of Autonomy, and 25 years since the Regulating Law of the Catalan Ombudsman and foundation of the current institution. "Opening Doors to Rights" has been especially conceived and designed to be a travelling exhibit. The Catalan Ombudsman wants to offer Catalonia this exhibit, which covers not only the institution's history, but also its usefulness to citizens.

Recommendation: make international vaccination services free

The Ombudsman bases this recommendation on the fact that the number of persons who travel has increased significantly. There are also many more immigrants who travel to their countries of origin to spend their holidays and visit families. This new situation has led to the appearance in our society of imported diseases, a situation that must be met with measures to prevent, to the degree possible, that travellers contract disease during their trips, and services for those who return from their trips with a disease.
