The Catalan Ombudsman considers the Constitutional Court's decision on Article 78 of the Statute of Autonomy outdated, inappropriate and inefficient

The Catalan Ombudsman, following an initial assessment of the Constitutional Court's ruling on the Statute, finds that the decision will curtail Catalonia's right to self-government, and the democratic objectives that validate it, such as the preferential language of administrations, although the part of the appeal affecting the Statute's title on rights is still under deliberation.

The Catalan Ombudsman takes part in the annual meeting of university ombudspersons

Catalan Ombudsman Rafael Ribó and other members of his staff will take part next July 9 in the Annual Meeting of University Ombudspersons and Advocates of the Vives University Network, which includes most universities in the Catalan-speaking regions of Spain. This year's meeting will be held at Miguel Hernández University in Elx.

The Catalan Ombudsman believes that the two services may be fundamental to guarantee the equality of educational opportunities. In some cases, the presence or absence of these benefits can be a factor that condition school absenteeism or the possibilities of preventing drop-outs.

The Catalan Ombudsman has begun an ex-officio action and has asked the Autonomous Ministry of Labor whether it will maintain and fulfill the commitments of the Agreement on measures for youth employment for 2009-2012, which included workshop and trade schools and employment workshops. The Ombudsman also asked whether new application periods would be opened for workshop and trade schools and employment workshops this year, with the economic budget item to subsidize the relevant programs.
