The Catalan Ombudsman delivers the Annual Report of the Catalan Authority for the Prevention of Torture

Rafael Ribó delivered to the Catalan Parliament on December 27, 2011 the Annual Report of the Catalan Authority for the Prevention of Torture as of 2011. The report compiles 22 recommendations, among which, placing more cameras and recording systems in all the penitenciary centers and hospitals, printing in all the pieces of the uniform the ID number of the civil servant in charge of penitentiary surveillance and setting up an specialized group of civil servants for young people.

Proposals for a system of refinancing of mortgage debt

Establishing fiscal changes, spreading the services of the NGO Cáritas and Ofideute (an advisory service on mortgage debt by the Catalan Government), and introducing in the legal code a system of refinancing of mortgage debt in case of indebtedness focus the proposals made by the Catalan Ombudsman last December 15. The proposals are the results of the agreement achieved by a work team, headed by the Catalan Ombudsman himself, and composed of representatives from the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia, Bar Association, Notary Association, Cáritas and Ofideute. Also, members of financial institutions have taken part in the meetings.

Meeting of the Catalan Ombudsman's Youth Advisory Council

The Catalan Ombudsman's Youth Advisory Council of the 2011-2012 yearly course is opening the year with a meeting held at the institution's headquarters, on January 17, to discuss about children and teen's rights. This will be the first ordinary meeting of the Council, composed of 20 students aged 14-15 years from eleven schools. The official opening of the Council was held last October with a special session to introduce the Catalan Ombudsman and the new members.

The Catalan Ombudsman consolidates its presence in Twitter

Joining the social network, six months ago, has helped the Catalan Ombudsman to be more accessible to citizens and to make its activities better known. Altogether, the account @sindicdegreuges closed the year with 465 followers and 133 tweets. The busiest times on the social netwok have been the presentation of the decision on the incidents of May 27 in Plaça de Catalunya and June 15 in the Catalan Parliament and the presentation of the reports on children's rights and the Catalan Authority for the Prevention of Torture.
