Rafael Ribó proposes a "winter truce" for people at risk of exclusion to stop cuts of light, gas and water for non-payment

The Catalan Ombudsman has produced a report confirming the lack of public policies to confront such a growing social phenomenon as energy poverty. Among the Catalan Ombudsman's proposals, addressed to administrations and private companies providing general interest services, stands out a "winter truce" to stop cuts of supplies during wintertime for non-payment. He also proposes to set up a social price for butane and to bank on progressive pricing of water supply.

The Catalan Ombudsman calls for more guarantee for the inclusive education of children with disabilities

The Catalan Ombudsman has asked the Ministry of Education to apply policy and regulatory measures to deepen the development of inclusive education in Catalonia. Such measures must take into account not only the provision of adequate resources for mainstream schools in order to ensure the schooling of pupils with special education needs but the establishment of schooling criteria which combat social and territorial inequalities.

Recommendations to curb the proliferation of unlicensed youth hostels in Barcelona

As a result of a complaint of the Catalan Association of Tourist Hostels (ACATUR), the Catalan Ombudsman has addressed the administrations involved in the process of licensing, monitoring, inspection and punishment of youth hostels and has asked them to improve efficiency and to take actions to prevent the proliferation of such unlicensed hostels in Barcelona.

Ex-officio action on gas injections in the Delta de l'Ebre

The Catalan Ombudsman has analysed the causes of the earthquakes that occurred in the Delta de l'Ebre's area related to the gas injections carried out in the Castor Project underwater warehouse. The Catalan Ombudsman has warned about the consequences and the risks of these activities not only for inhabitants of the area but also for the environment. Investigation on the death of a man in Raval (Barcelona district) after having been arrested by the Catalan Police

The Catalan Ombudsman opened an ex-officio action to investigate the death of a man on October, 5 after being arrested by the Catalan Police due to a previous fight in the Raval district of Barcelona. The victim died after having been taken to hospital. Rafael Ribó asks to reconsider the La Rioja Ombudsman suspension

The Catalan Ombudsman, Rafael Ribó, as member of the IOI Board of Directors, has addressed to the Spanish Government, to the parliamentary groups and the Parliament of La Rioja to urge them to change the decision to suspend the institution of the regional Ombudsman. Such measure makes it inconsistent, among other recommendations, with the resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which reasserts the need to strengthen Ombudsman institutions in Europe.
